The west front of Notre-Dame-la-Grande undertook an important restoration which ended in 1995. The following year, artists from Skertzo conceived a light show that visitors can admire every evening in summer (from June 21st to the Journées du Patrimoine weekend in September), as well as during the Christmas holidays.
A favourite outing on summer nights, this creation proposes a different view of the Romanesque monument. It also recalls that in the Middle Ages Notre-Dame's famous façade had once been coloured, as proven by texts and traces discernible since cleaning.
The Polychromies are regularly renewed since their creation : six new versions in 2004 and two more in 2007 now replace the originals in a new programme.
